Legislative Recycling Day at the State House

I am fortunate to be able to attend this amazing event! I can wait to meet with policy makers to urge them to support recycling efforts in schools!

Personal Care Item Recycling Challenge

During the months of January and February, we will be recycling personal care items as a school. These items include shampoo bottles, conditioner bottles, make-up containers, hair gel containers, and any other containers that would be similar these.  The classrooms that recycling the most total weight of personal care items will win a pizza party! All of the items that are brought in should be empty! We will weigh all of the items brought in for each classroom on February 28th! Please send us your cosmetic, hair care or skin care packagingincluding shampoo bottles and caps, conditioner bottles and caps, hair gel tubes and caps, hair spray bottles and triggers, and hair paste plastic jars and caps, lip balm tubes, face soap dispensers and tubes, face lotion bottles, tubes and plastic jars, body wash containers, soap tubes and dispensers, body lotion dispensers and bottles, shaving foam tubes (no cans), hand lotion bottles and tubes, lipstick cases, lip gloss tubes, mascara tubes, eye shadow cases, bronzer cases, foundation packaging and bottles, powder cases, eyeliner cases, eyeliner pencils, eye shadow tubes, concealer tubes, concealer sticks and lip liner pencils.

Battery Recycling Challenge for Faculty and Staff

During the month of December, faculty and staff members were challenged to recycle as many batteries as possible. Each time a faculty or staff member recycled a battery, his/her name was entered into a drawing to win a $10 Fandango gift card. 

We recycled almost 300 batteries!

Light Bulb Exchange

We had an amazing Light Bulb Exchange! We were able to exchange 290 light bulbs! That is wonderful! Our recycling students are working on calculating our total energy saving impact! Thank you so much for all of your help and support with the exchange. Stay tuned to the next recycling event in January!

Sandlapper will be hosting a Light Bulb Exchange with the Richland County Sustainability Department on December 5th from 7:30-8:30 AM and 6:30-7:30 PM. Bring in up to 8 regular household bulbs and exchange them for up to 8 energy efficient CFLs.  While supplies last!
